Deadly's Desert Rat

Post by Deadly on Thu 15 Apr 2010, 12:41 pm

Decided to make a start on my "Holy Grail", the Monogram Off-Road Adventure Set.........

Have started mocking it up.......

....This is going to be the approx ride height. Wheels and tires are from The Parts Box, as is the blower and scoop. The Hemi is from the MPC General Lee.

The bikes look nicely moulded. Any indication what make they are?
They're stink wheels and look vaguely Yamahaish for some reason.
But maybe they are just generic 2 stroke dirt bike to save licenseing fees?

Yeh, they're pretty good, fair bit of "flash" on some parts. No, no distinct markings as to what make they are, think it's just a generic mould.

Cool build so far, nice work. Not sure about the spare tyre, looks a little high up on the roll bar?

No worries
I have no idea where they should be mounted just thought it looked a bit high. Looks cool anyways, what body colour are you think of spraying this beast?

Re: Deadly's Desert Rat

I'd think about how someone would go geting the spare off if they had a flat out back of Woop Woop on their own.
Would they be able to lift it off the bolts if it was up high on the roll cage?
On a 1:1 i'd either have it low with the edge of the tyre sitting on the bed or (if you wanted to be able to slide some stuff into the bed and still get some use out of it) where you have it but with some angle iron welded to the tubes to support the bottom of the tyre. Either of these methods would mean that it wasn't the bolts taking all the weight of the wheel which would make it easier to remove.

Looks good BTW. I'd assumed that it was a 4by but that looks suspiciously like a straight axle front end.
