My first airbrush art

Post by Tillerman on Mon 08 Nov 2010, 9:11 pm

Decided to have a go at some airbrush art so I'm doing a course on the goldy at the moment. This is my main piece from day 1. I've only ever done alclad and solid colour on models with the airbrush before today so don't look too closely...

The background is a cracked granite effect. We are doing this one in colour tomorrow.

That's pretty cool for your first go, by the end of the week you'll be putting Shoey to shame.

Cool. Do you mask or is it all freehand?

The skull is done with a stencil for the basic head shape then the rest is all freehand including the teeth. The landscape scene was masked only to create a horizon, all the detail is done freehand.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's not that hard to do when you learn the tricks. This is the main piece I worked on to finish the course off.

Re: My first airbrush art

They are all just under a3 size except for the main piece with the blade in it, that one is a little bigger again. The skulls are done in a paper spirax art book with thick paper. The others are done on an aluminium lined plastic board with a white coating on the alloy. Not sure exactly what it's called... The landscape and the main piece have been clear coated in a spray booth with 2 pac, the clown hasn't as it's not yet finished. The paint I've used for the airbrush is dupont centari mastertint basecoat colours.

For anyone that's thinking of getting into airbrush art I can definately recommend the course I did with advanced airbrush with Wayne and Ryan. They do courses all over the country. You won't learn everything in 5 days but it will sure give you a good start and the basics that you need to work on to get really good. If you don't have an airbrush they will supply 1 for the course so don't let that stop you.

Cheers

I did a 5 day course and it was $625 with everything included. You can do 2, 3, 5 and 7 day courses if you want depending on your course location. It does cost a bit to do but you are learning from the best and it will set you up nicely if you want to get into doing airbrushing as an income source. I would recommend the 5 day course if you can manage it, just because it gives you time to learn more of the tecniques and really get a proper handle on getting the fine control needed to do a lot of the strokes etc. The website to check out the courses is www.airbrush.com.au

Tell Wayne i sent ya! bigthumbsup

I use an iwata hp-c+. I used to have a cheaper one that worked well but it couldn't handle the automotive thinners too well.. Yeah Wayne is excellent at what he does. Makes it look very easy too!
