Hey, thanks guys. Very Happy

Well, holly crap, ain't we got some catchin' up to do.................. Embarassed My apologies for being a slack-arse............ drunken
Rightio, been so much going on, aside from modelling...not sure where to start.....

Chassis work has gone pretty smooth...Added a steering column into the newly fitted firewall.
ALL this has changed BTW, as you will see a bit later.....Only locations have altered, to clear the headers, I had to drop it down
by about 5mm. The other parts are as they will finish.

The "U" (uni) joints are simple heat-shrink tube over the steering shafts.

The rack & pinion set up also got swapped out for a more "user friendly" version.....
This one is smaller and more true to size, but the pinion I had was proving too stubborn....So I stepped up 1 size.

Then.............Time to get serious.........................

4-Link
This was not going to be fun....but it needed to be done, all these cars have them. Laughing

4 equal parts of sheet stock, bolted together for ease of making.....first piece roughly cut to shape.

Ta-dah............4 equal parts (almost) ready to go.....

After some final testing, re-shaping etc....Some "filler" card stock added between two outer pieces for rigidity....

And bingo...........Installed.

The same process was followed for the axle members as well.....

4 equal parts....

Installed on a partially started diff centre...(this is the second diff I've started, and IS looking much better.. Laughing )

Been a lot more bar work added to the chassis too, along with the all important GAS pedal. Twisted Evil

Continues................

...............

The tranny tunnel also got some final mounting hardware.....

Then............Things REALLY got UGLY..................

I attached the body with small screws, hoping to conceal them as Dzuz fasteners, but the real bodies don't mount that way...
So I plan to redo the mounts, and tack them from below..... Wink

AND, now you get to see.....just how much of the original plastic is still there............. NOT !!

And, how kool are these things...............
My mate Dave, sent these pulleys and idler out the other week....They fit perfectly.
The belt I sourced locally, and it fits pretty good too...

A NEW idler mount has been made to allow for more adjustment. I ordered the belt a tad long.... Rolling Eyes
NEW mount...........

AND......My #1 pain in the arse situation this last week.......
I had suspicions that...the BODY was just....well, not right. Evil or Very Mad An email from Dave confirmed that I was out....by a good bit.
So, not wanting to build something I would not be happy with, I started the whole thing from scratch again..............Nah, just kidding.

The front was shortened by 10mm just behind the grill.
The NEW panel lines were reshaped and contoured, and I believe it will be a 100% improvement when finished.

The rear....well that lost a good INCH from it's arse.
New lower fenders will be added once I get the contours to where I need them.

An overview gives a better indication of how she looks now...

The Funny Car style hoop is now added to the driver compartment.....

And this weekend I've been messing at making some shocks.....

Ph-eeww....Now, that brings us back up to speed..... Very Happy
More as it happens guys, and thanks so much for stopping by.
cheers

Thanks so much guys. Very Happy

Not a whole lot to catch up on here....my time has been eaten away in other areas...... Sad Rolling Eyes Laughing

Made a new front engine plate for the idler pulley, it needed some extra length to stretch the belt out.....
Bolted to the plate, as well as the stay bar, brace made from flattened 1/16 aluminium rod.

And started messing with the fuel system. Base for the pump has been made a while, I've just added the start of the pump itself...

And after getting the body almost done...I got anxious the other week and threw some primer on...... Laughing

Since these shots were taken (it showed I got carried away with the motor....
Rolling Eyes ) the motor has actually been lowered a good 5-8mm....
At least 4mm come out of the blower manifold, PLUS I managed to lower the motor itself by another 3-4mm down into the chassis.

That's where we're at for now, waiting on some fuel fittings....had a truck load of braid arrive today, nothing to join it with tho... Sad
More soon, stay tuned......

Well....nearly 4 months, that's hardly soon is it....... Rolling Eyes Laughing

So, we got some catchin' up ta do.................and it's nearly ALL motor related. Cool
Started by running some very basic oil lines, they will eventually connect through a filter to the oil tank.

And finally, after what seemed like a hundred years...the putty on the hat was ready for sanding and finishing...

Started a metering block for the fuel feed at the hat...

This was the first version (of fuel line variations...)

Fuel supply pump started from several pieces of scrap glued together, painted silver and top coated with a clear red.

Got busy making a belt guard too...

And finished the drive dog for the starter coupling.

Continues.....

Re: Drag racing bug.....not the VW kind....

Post by stump on Tue 27 Dec 2011, 1:54 am

Hehe, thanks man. Couple more coming at ya now. Wink

The hat getting some colour.....will probably go with the gloss black look, as much as I want carbon, the decals were hopeless..(or I was )

Test fitting the fuel valve

Belt guard/cage painted...

Things got exciting when my package arrived from TDR's Shapeways shop. cheers 3D printing.
These parts may seem a tad excessive (expensive) to some, but you get a true "blue-print style" piece of art work.
3D printing is really taking off, and the good news is, prices will come down.

Anyways, this example is a Lenco 3-speed transmission. It's a little difficult to make out the detail in raw form...but once painted.

My "old" home made version in the background....

And, with paint. I added the bolt detail.

I made the air shift pods from scraps (the units supplied with the box were a tad flimsy...) Plus a new reverse shifter.

Some mounting hardware for the shift buttons....

Once it was all hooked up, she was ready to be bolted in place......at a later date.

Continues...... Shocked

Post by stump on Tue 27 Dec 2011, 2:11 am

And....you'd have thought I'd make two of these at once, hey...... Rolling Eyes
Only made the second rocker cover a couple of weeks ago. Took some sanding and re-shaping to get them pretty evenly matched. Laughing

And made some gaskets to suit from an old business card.....not mine. Laughing

"Painted" a blue edge with a Sharpie pen, did the trick ok....They are only just visible, but it adds that bit extra to the build.

Also made a NEW MSD ProMag44 set up. The old unit just looked off....Made a stabilizer bar for it too.

Connectors for the "puke tank"..

Started running the lower fuel lines.....

And finally.....finally got around to making the rails/cradle for the trans to sit in.

And an overview of how it sits at the moment.....

Been messing with making my own decals the last few weeks, got some clear and some white inkjet decal film, got 3 sheets printed up.
Just need to give them a clear topcoat to seal it all, then I can't wait to try them out. Very Happy

With a little over 2 weeks annual leave to kill, I'm sure I can get some more done in time..... Laughing
Stay tuned guys, and thanks for lookin' in.
