the strip

Post by doorslammerfan on Sun 19 Feb 2012, 8:36 am

Fictitious dragstrip, going for an early eighties vibe so my 70's funny car builds will suit as well. Based on an old table top so its about 5 feet long 3 feet wide.
Dirt bank, not sure I'm happy with it yet, made out of polystyrene packing. Once the armco and fence signage goes in front it might not be so bad. An armco and fence will go on the near side as well as the control tower with maybe a grandstand. Heaps to do just started yesterday, this is really intended for a photo background for some fun shots, but all suggestions are welcomed

I like it ,looking good. I think it's the best way to display cars in a diorama. Good work.

Great idea for a backdrop to your models. I agree when you get the Armco on it will look much better.

thanks guys, Kirk the tree comes from the dodgy amt 72 gto kit.Its all chrome and doesn't glue together very easily, but it is a good looking tree. Would love to get my hands on the old amt dragstrip parts pack, has a tree, timing lights and cameras I think

I only asked because I haven't seen it before, smarty pants Razz
Dude, let me know when you get over here, I live an hour from Willowbank, are you spectating or crewing, would be good to meet you and have a yarn, I will be coming up but only on one day, probably Saturday for final quals, to expensive to go any more, especially now my daughter has to pay to get in and I have two chances of leaving her at home.
Will have to talk to the boys and see what the plan is, as Shoey is involved, no doubt ours wil actually work, flashing lights and all but if we need it I'll let you know.

Thats gonna come up very nice with more detail, IMO, it needs lots more launch/burn-out marks over the start line, will be a great way to photograph your builds, especially considering what you build most of.

Looking very good DSF!!! I think the armco will fix your problem, as DeeCee said it does need some more rubber across the traps. Your buildswill look killer on there!

The dragstrip parts pack comes up quite alot on U.S evilbay for about $20 & if you can get the seller to ship 1st class international that keeps the costs down. I think Scale Modeling by Chris has a timing light. I scanned this old article from the April 92 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast for some inspiration for you (yes my collection goes back that far, lol), i look forward to seeing this finished.

The new mongoose dragster kit comes with a christmas tree and two figures.
This will be an awesome diorama, i remember reading about lewis pruneau's diorama. I was amazed especailly how he modified all those figures.
Can't wait to see this finished. keep up the good work
Happy modelling.

thanks mate. Its just lines drawn on with a marker then scribed with the back of an exacto blade. Then to keep the shadows of the mortar I primed and painted it white. I want it to look like its had a hard life so hopefully I'll pull it off

The card stock you are using for your furniture, is it from Jims dollhouse pages? I have printed out some of their furniture while things like the computer keyboard is small and fiddly it looks a treat. I recommend this site to anyone, they offer items in most scales from 1/6th to 1/48. If you haven't visited go and have a look you might be surprised. Web site below.
