"MANX"

Post by Paul on Sat 03 Mar 2012, 8:58 pm

I've always wanted one of these kits so the re-issue has been hugely welcomed,

......as usual I can't leave well enough alone so I'm building this my way,

Tyres are from the AMT Phantom Vicky kit, front rims are out of the Hasegawa VW ute with an added outer lip, Rear rims are made from 3 separate parts and have Maisto diecast Beetle rims with a custom rim to fit the big tyres and the Hubcaps are also from the VW ute kit. Engine will either be a detailed VW or Turbo Convair 6 cylinder!

.....this is my inspiration for the build, mines just going to be a modern interpretation of it.

Very cool, Paul. Great job on those wheels, they've turned out really well.
Either engine will be cool.

Thanks for the comments guys Very Happy

...I've got a little more progress done, chassis is painted satin black and the metal checker-plate flooring is installed. The front axle is painted gloss black and needed slight mods to fit correctly!

Very nice...though most Manx chassis' never looked that good. A mate of mine built up his Manx on the chassis of my first Karmann Ghia...which was a rust bucket. The chassis looked like something from Mad Max by the time he got done metal patching...hmmm...I think I am getting an idea for one of my Manx models.

It was suicide, Checkmate! A 1958 Karmann Ghia that sadly saw too many Michigan winters when they used salt to de-ice roads. My 2nd car was also a Karmann Ghia and that one is now fully restored and running the streets of Chicago.

I'd like to finish this build off but I've misplaced some Convair engine parts, anyone got a spare one from the Parts Pack kit?

http://ozautobuilders.forum-motion.com/t7428-wanted

I bought an AMT Convair kit hoping the engine was shared with the parts pack, but it ain't  Shocked

This is looking to be one sweet ride. These manx kits are so versatile with the modifications you can make of them. I'm looking forward to see what else you do to this model. Nice work.  twothumbsup twothumbsup
