Biante 1/18 Torana A9X 4-door

Post by stump on Sun 11 Nov 2012, 9:06 am

Hey guys,
So, I've been missing for a while...really went off the rails for a bit. Just couldn't get my head around modelling at all....
During that time, I even faded towards diecast....wanting something that could go straight on the shelf. Tired of never getting a plastic kit finished, this was an easy option...
But that soon changed too................. No

This was one of the first diecast I got, being a lover of Torana's, it was a "must have"...............

Happy to display it as is, it took pride of place in my case. Very Happy

Then it dawned on me.........it just looked too stock. Twisted Evil
So, back to plastic................
I found some dimensions on a Torana website for the Bond racing fuel tank, the trusty old "drop tank". Wink

MUCH better. Cool

It was a little while later that I stumbled across some neat Advan tyres, similar sizing to what was always a must have on the real Torana's.
They were equipped on a Datsun that I scored. So, off they came. Trouble was, I now have big tyres, but still only standard rims. confused

Some net surfing found a supplier in Germany making really kool 1/18 wheel sets.

Some trimming and fiddling to get them looking how I wanted....

Pretty soon, I had these ready.

So, from this....

To this.... Very Happy
Removed quite a lot of metal from the inner guards as well, to get the stance down to where I liked.
Lucky for me, the flares were plastic, so "thinning" their lip was pretty easy. I think it portrays the look of MOST Torana's pretty well now.

Pretty happy with the out come.
Cheers

Always like this model torry, always thought they looked good with hotwires. You done a fantastic job, amazing what a good set of rims will do to a car. Do you have a link to where you got your wheels from?
