Dodge Coronet Superbee

Post by dufasdave on Fri 08 Mar 2013, 11:04 am

Heres my next build now that the Shelby Cobra is finished. Its the MPC kt of a 1970 Dodge Coronet Superbee. Not one of my favorite cars but it was in my stash and I found a cool colour in my paint selection to paint it in. Well on its way, only started it last week.

It will be mostly stock but I have lowered it by reworking the front stubs and rear springs, have also changed the wheels to something more modern. Also the classic bonnet hinge has been done. Stay tuned.

These ARE one of my favourite cars.
A small point but something seems to be wrong with the HEMI... Very Happy

I just wish that they had bothered doing proper headlights when they did the last reissue.

Lookin' good so far, I really like the shape of these things. Dodge/Chrysler really knew Where it was at in the early '70's didn't they.

Love the shape of these things, they look TUFF as i think. The kit engine is disappointing i think, i recently Hemi-fied mine, to make it look the goods.
Will be watching this one, great job on the hinges too Dave.

Yeah, sorry if I confused you Dave.
These kits can be built with either a 440 Magnum (as you have done) or a 426 Hemi.
I can't ever go past the Hemi but IRL the 6 pack equipped Magnum was a more practical choice for street use as they stayed in tune and didn't need an experienced race mechanic to set them up to run properly.

Nice so far Dave, got one of these to do myself.
What colour you picked out?
I'm thinking of doing mine like "Mutant Bee" from Plum Floored Creations....

There's a lot of stuff in the kit box, should be a good kit to build.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one hellyeah

Thanks for clearing that up. As I said I am not a big Dodge/Valiant/Plymouth/Hemi/Mitsubishi person but appreciate most cars (things like Lada, Kia, Skoda don't count). This information was good as it explained why the kit had the 2 engines, it also has the shortened diff and coil springs as I am assuming for the pro street look with pro street tyres (not in this kit though). Extra parts for other projects.

My plan was to build this as a mild streeter, nothing overly done, just a cruiser from the 70's.

You can keep your Kia's but nothing wrong with Ladas & Skodas if you bear in mind they are cheap utilitarian transport built down to a price - peoples cars.
When the germans overran Czechslovakia in 1938 Ferdinand Porsche ended up with a lot of stuff from the Skoda & Tatra factories.
