Revell '49 Merc

Post by LordZycon on Sat 31 Aug 2013, 1:17 pm

Ok, so I haven't been on here in ages. Been a hectic year with work and other bits and pieces.
Anyway, had three weeks off recently and thought it'd be nice to start something again and here it is:
Revell's '49 Merc. Smile So far sanded everything back, chopped out the 'B' pillars and smoothed the drip rails then threw on some Testors true blue pearl. Left it for a week before sanding it back and giving it another coat then left it another two before final sanding/polishing.
First time using micro-mesh and I must say, even though it's by no means perfect, I'm amazed at the finish.
Here it is so far:

It's gonna be slow progress but I'll update when I can. Let me know what you think.
Oh, just one more thing. I'm not sure whether to put on the fender skirts or not? Any opinions?

Cheers, Josh.

Bit late for skirts isn't it?
You'll have a heck of a job matching the paint.
Looks good though so far.

Me personaly, I would go with the long skirts, I like the kolor, but refuse to use anything by Testors, I got a full kustom of this car going myself, looks good fora start.

Thanks for the comments guys. Smile

Fred, the skirts were painted with the rest of the car so they're good to go if I decide that way.

Gothic, just had a look at your's and it's looking great. One day I hope to be confident enough to try chopping and changing the way you do. Smile I've never had an issue with the Testors paints but prefer to use Tamiya... Have an airbrush but really haven't had the time to play with it. Sad

Thanks guys, Josh.

That looks great!! Personally I went with no skirts. I think they are sorta played out.  But either way will look great.

Paint them at the same time.  Why didn't I think of that?

In my book skirts yes,  but only if you lower it more than RKs is.  Maybe make it a tail dragger?

Thanks for the comments guys. Quite encouraging. Smile

Retro, your's looks really good in silver. Simple and elegant. I love cars that are understated. Smile

Fred, I always try and paint the extra bits and pieces just in case I do decide to use them. Will do some mock-ups when I get the chance but I'm thinking a tail dragger could definitely work.

Cheers again, Josh.

Ok, so after much deliberation, I've decided to put the fender skirts on and lowered the rear suspension some. Also have gotten the tail/headlights in and the body is pretty much finished except for windows and the mirror. Smile
Here's where it stands at the moment.

Gonna try and get a good start on the interior today. Thinking white with blue piping/accents. Also need to get the chassis painted up.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome. Smile

Cheers, Josh.
