G'day,
The last few things to be done before I can paint is the deck lid, taillights, grill and headlights.
I hinged the access panel on the deck lid very simply by using a tube and a tight fitting rod. I like how the front of the access panel tilts inwards when it's opened.
I also painted the tyre lettering but it's smudged. I used water based paint so I'll just wipe it off and do it again at final assembly.

Next was some taillights. I bought this cool pe sheet of custom hot rod taillight frames from detail master, used the thinnest plastic I could find and painted it red for the lights. Cut some slots in the tailgate so the taillights will sit flush when glued in.

Next was to come up with a grill that has a 50's feel to it but still looks good with the modern bumper. The headlights are from a '32 Ford and I made the grill from 1mm plastic rods. I'll add honeycomb mesh to the bumper openings and behind the grill. I think it will look good once painted but I'm not sure if the bar grill was the right choice.

I'll smooth the body out one more time then move on to paint......can't wait!
Thanks for looking.

The grille is perfect - at last a '50 F1 I like the front view of.  Love the back hatch.  Are you going to scribe the door openings?

Thanks Fred. Also never been a fan of the 50's grille, I much prefer the 57 grille.
I'm not planning on scribing out the doors as I want the body to look like a one piece race body with sponsors etc.

Cheers guys!
Allan, I'm going to paint it dark gun metal grey. Not sure if I'll go with one colour or I might add some black nose scallops. Trying to avoid the normal bright colour that you see on Nascars.

Thanks for the support guys.
Glad you like it Shayne. I found your Bud Nastruck build a few months back while searching for reference pics.

The detail you've added is superb, if only I could wrap my body over your highly detailed rolling chassis and then call it done! Perfect match! Very Happy

All bodywork completed, last thing was the rear spoiler. I've undercoated/sanded everything 2 or 3 times, this is the last one before paint. I usually start with 400grt sandpaper and work up to 1200. I mist spray black overtop the primer to act as a guide coat.

The goal is the sand away the black without sanding through to the plastic. If I was painting this a light colour, I would prime and sand again just to get an even prime coat.

Today was paint day!

Pics look a bit grainy but it is smooth and there's another coat to go down.

Now it's startin' to look like a race truck!

I used 3mm green tape for the lines.
Now I'll add some sponsor decals, maybe (probably should) add a number and then a bucket load of clear. But first I'll let it sit for a few weeks, let the paint harden up. Plus I have a new project I need to start.
