57 Chev

Post by dv8v8 on Mon 18 Nov 2013, 10:51 pm

this is Revells 57 Chev, i chose this kit for the opening doors and bootlid (saves me a lot of cutting) so far the engine is done, not much detail on it as this car will be in a diorama and the engine bay will probably never be seen.

There's something fishy about this pic.  Look at the glass. Look how straight the panels are.  It looks to be in far too good a condition to have been abandoned in the middle of no-where...

O.K., I'll bite. I think the photo is genuine, and ther is a clue. Look alongside the quarter vent and see the mirror post and peer through the windshield to see the dash - ah hah, it's left hand drive. Having been fortunate enough to have completed four trips to the USA for a combined total of over nine months over the last twenty years, I can tell you with authority that when the Americans abandon a car, many times it stays just like this!

Unlike Australia, roaming bands of hoods don't feel the pressing need to destroy anything that doesnt have an armed guard and a doberman chained to it. I have several hundred photos of vintage tin photographed in over forty states and it is perfectly common to find straight cars with full glass just sitting quietly in the weeds. Only last month we came across a business in a city in New Jersey that had as part of a nostalgia display a Harley Davidson soft tail with all the fringes etc. just up from it was a cut down HD chopper. So what, you might say? Well, most of the display was inside the store but the bikes were sitting , permanently, on the footpath - no chains, no padlocks, Sunday afternoon opposite a park and a railway station, no-one around. Can you imagine how long they would last here?

So you're right, zenrat, there is something fishy - it could never happen in Australia. Like they say on the news, only in America!!!

I guess so.  But someone took the trim off.  You'd think they'd have salvaged more than that.
Look at how poorly it's propped up.  I shudder thinking someone might have crawled under there and removed the rear end with it held up that way.

I have this kit and it is pretty average. My kit has a lot of flash and the chrome on the wheels is crap. Nice job so far I like where you are going with this build. Very Happy
