1975 Buick Skyhawk

Post by zenrat on Tue 20 May 2014, 9:12 pm

I'm doing this for a group build on another forum.
The Doyousha Buick is typical of their nostalgia heroes range in that it has a reasonable body with a horribly shallow interior (to hide batteries and motor) and a generic undetailed chassis.

Previously i've cut down a NASCAR chassis to fit one of their Nissan bodies. This time i'm using a Monogram '91 Firebird.

The wheelbase is spot on which makes a nice change. I just had to chop a bit off the front of the chassis as the Firebird has a longer nose.
Firewall and inner fenders were moulded with the Firebird body (Buick just has a drop in engine plate) so I cut them out and will glue them into the Skyhawk body.
I think it looks good white with a red interior so I might keep it like this bar maybe red racing stripes.

I'll use the Firebird wheels & tyres and small block but will probably be adding a little forced induction.

Now that's coolbigthumbsup off to a good start. What about two red strip over the white body, pearl white would look cool too.

Thanks folks.
First job is getting the bonnet to fit properly. It comes moulded with the body but with really thin sections as a "cut here" line. When it's removed and cleaned up the resulting gap around the edges is too big. Also there is no lip on the edge of the body for it to sit on.
So i've glued some thin styrene sheet inside the body for it to sit on and i'm now adding material back to the sides of the bonnet to make it fit the hole.
Following that i'll be cleaning up the body mould lines and sink marls.

Same car, different engines (Buick had a V6) & badges.
70's GM Badge Engineering at it's best.
