Italeri FH16 Globetrotter

Post by LordZycon on Sun 21 Sep 2014, 5:12 pm

Hi guys,

Well this if my first truck build. Had the kit for years but only pulled it out a few weeks ago to start it.

No exciting progress so far, just a start on the chassis.

Painted the engine to represent the later model one though it still needs to be detailed.

I'm also thinking of getting this kit to update the cab to the Mk II version.

On a final note, I've just moved house and somewhere during that process, I've lost the roof for the cab. Have been through all my modelling stuff and it is nowhere to be found. Any suggestions at all? Worst case, I'll have to try and order a new frame through Italeri. Smile

Anyhoo, it'll probably be a slow process but I'll update when I can.
Cheers,
Josh.

KFS from England may do a flat roof for this but I'm not sure. What ever happens, as soon as you come up with something else the original will turn up. Nice work so far.

Thanks guys, will just crack on with everything else for now and see if the roof turns up. Smile
Thankfully, there is plenty more to go on with...

Well, it's been a very long time but I've made some progress on this.
Got most of the chassis together, minus most of the tanks. The engine is in and a few other bits and pieces done. Still might detail the engine a big but will see how I go.
Think next I'll do the interior. Thinking black with red highlights or black with tan...
What do you guys think?..
Anyhoo, here are a few pics for you all.

Cheers, Josh.

Older Volvos had green engines - at least various shades there of. Not sure about the new ones. Black interior with red highlights sounds sharp.

Very sharp build mate . In the past on various forums everytime someone lost a part it was always the cat , check its sleeping area if you have one .

Thanks guys,

aussie muscle, the Mk2 and Mk3 of this model had a blue engine but yes, the earlier ones were definitely green. Was going for an earlier truck with a later model engine though it's not 100% accurate.

Going with the black and red interior, mostly black with red highlights. Getting a start on it but no pics at the moment. Have filled in the back of the seats so it's not just a giant hole behind them (not that you're really going to see it).

Just been gluing tanks together and filling/sanding down seams and joins to get them looking better. Time consuming but should be worth it in the end.

Cheers, Josh.

Well, here's the progress on the interior.

The decals for the dash were a massive headache, even with microset to try and help but still came up alright...

Door trims done. The door lights were painted silver then gone over with a red sharpie to look like plastic lenses.

Finally, here are the seats. Put some Evergreen sheet in the backs to fill the giant hole and I think they came up alright.

As always, let me know what you think. will keep going with the rest of the interior. Oh, filled in the panel lines for the side cab windows as well to smooth it a little. Still have to sand it all back though.

On a bad note, I still haven't found the roof for the cab... Thinking a flat one from KFS might be the go though I was keen for the Globetrotter cab.. Oh well.

Cheers all, Josh.
