Got the cab roof done. I put individual timbers down and then masking tape over it to look like malthoid like they used to use on railway carriage roofs (rooves?). Kind of a tar paper cross lino sort of thing. I then used thin brass strips with rivet detail to represent where it had been re enforced at the joints.

Did a little damage to the back edge of the roof to make it look like stuff has spilt over the front of the hopper. The detail is hard to see at this stage but hopefully the final weathering will bring it out.The cab, radiator and bonnet are also fixed on. This allowed me to put the walkway on. This also uses individual boards but I managed to find some that were already naturally weathered. I've left the steering column and wheel in as the engine controls are fitted to the wheel. The wheel is still being painted but will go on!

Had a go at making my own badge for the front. Used thin aluminium sheet to cut the logo, fly screen for the mesh and evergreen tube for the surround. Probably too rough for a new truck, but about right for this one. Still need to decide on what sort of handrail to put on the walkway but thinking a mix of bent steel tube and chain.

Got the hand rails on. Cut sections of brass strip with rivet detail to act as a mounting plate  with a small round socket for the rail to slot into at each end.

This photo looked better on the camera but tried to make this side look like a dodgy  repair with a new section wired on.

Used the kit headlight but with one at each end, added electrical wires to both. Put the broken wooden swing step on the chain hanging off the steps.

Cut the wire short on this end to add to the neglected look. Not a lot of building left to do on this, couplers and train air hoses  and a few tools and bits and pieces. A little more paint work on the lights and things, then it's time to have a go with weathering using pastel chalks - what could go wrong here! going to have a crack at a diorama base for this as well.

A tip for you using dry pastels for weathering you can use them like paint just add a few drops of water, You also need to seal the pastel powder with a drawing fixative, you buy it from art supply shops. It came in a large rattle can.

Base board under way. Some mdf offcuts topped with Styrofoam to give enough height to create a creek bed.

The track looked pretty crap just laid on a flat base. Thought about a workshop scene but didn't have enough workshop gear from that era to pull it off so decided on this. Trying to make it look like a minor spur line for disposing of the ash/waste. Sticks are from the garden and the bridge is based on stuff I've seen in railway and logging mags for temp type tracks. Once the track is down, I'll use ash for the ballast and form little heaps of it along the edges of the track.

Base board pretty much done. Might need another coat of black on the base and a few minor touch ups.

Thanks gents, there was some very nice stuff on the table with it, mostly B models which are hard to resist. I wasn't sure how it would go not being 100% truck so it was a nice surprise.
