Opel Blitz Fire truck

Post by Shoey on Tue 04 Aug 2015, 12:26 am

Hey Guys, I've been pretty slack posting stuff of recent. although I have been building heaps.

Here is my Opel Blitz 3 ton. Fire truck.
I scored this kit off Bluedog a bit over a month ago.
I found a pic of an old International water truck with lots of rust.
so I set out to build it that way,
Half way through the build I found another Opel Blitz already done the same way and it looked bloody awesome.

Hope you all like!

bigthumbsup Nothing short of brilliant!!!! That is the best rust and weathered finish I've seen and I've studied a lot of armour modeling sites to find good weathering techniques.
I have to ask, how did you do the peeling paint?

Hey guys thank you so much for the coments,
Cudatj and Antwon - Regarding the rust I use a very sharp blade and gently cut on an angle into the panel without breaking the pealed bits off. then I used a Dremel to thin the panel from the inside.
These are the paints I used for the rusted areas. If you can get yout mits onto a pot of Gunze rust 344 (Hard to find now off the market)
If you have an old dried up pot of it, it can easily be rejuvinated. Don't chuck it out!

Cheers
Shoey

All I can say is I'm glad I don't do this type of modelling so don't have to go up against you in a comp.
Are you coming down for QMHE?

Thanks for the tip for the rust Shoey, but what about the peeling paint effect on the guards, is that done the same way with a sharp blade to peel up the dried paint?
I'd be keen to see how you did that.

Cheers

Thanks Again for the comments,
Antwon - the peeled paint and the rusted area, before I spayed the truck I masked the areas that were to have rust, then I sprayed the colour on, I peeled off the mask to reviel a paint lip, then cut and peeled up the plastic. rust was painted in afterwards.
Hope that is not too confusing.
Tubbs, I cant get time off with new job, I got no cash anyway.
Cheers

AHHH, ................ thanks mate, that makes sense. Thanks for sharing your techniques with us. It makes me a little braver to have a go at something similar, but I still don't think I could do as good a job as you though.
What you do is true 3D art my friend, and that makes you an Artist!

This is obviously a good build, it even managed to get praise on Facebook from a guy that usually does nothing but bag out and ridicule everyone other than his own work.
Well done Shoey, keep building mate and hang in there you're gradually getting better at it. Wink
