1/12 Vette Paint and mock-up

Post by DeeCee on Sun 23 Aug 2015, 9:20 pm

Been working on the body of this one for at least 6 weeks, trying to get it right.
I started out with a seconds kit which i have had for 20 years.
Finally time to build it, BUT, it's got to be different..  ( as usual..)
I was going to pro street it, looked every where for tyres, but i lucked upon a SWEET set of tyres that would NOT suit what i wanted to build.
These tyres were to re-set the whole plan.

Next job, was to make a set of wheels to fit these tyres, i used 3 sets of average wheels to get the final result of great looking wheels..

As you can see, they are a little bit wide, so time to get them under the guards, which is what took the best part of a month..

And then the problem, filling those gaps in, and trying to keep the Corvette body lines.  (sort of)..

Now your all up to date, time for the Blown injected 427, and narrow the independent rear end, oh, and narrow the rear chassis rails a little bit, just to get those rear wheels UNDER the guards properly..

Thanks Allan and Bruce, cheers men.. Smile

Allan, not real sure yet mate, as it will be a street car, with racing overtones, i am still not sure how wild to go, it will be a very bright blue, but toying with the idea of some red and/or white on it as well.

Here is the interior done..

And some more work on the rear end, had to narrow the diff  and pull the chassis rails in a bit , and turned the spare wheel well into a fuel cell.

Thanks Tim, yeah, she's way over my head, but slowly getting it done.
Allan, still not sure mate, and thanks Aussie,
here is a small update, made a few additions to the cage, but tried to keep it street...ish,
and next step is to try hide as much of the motor as possible.

Looking good mate. One thing I am glad of, you're not using the carbies, that always bugged me about this kit, it has an injector hat but carbies as well, one or the other , just didin't look right.
Can't wait to see what you do with paint, what ever it is it will be awesome..........no pressure, Very Happy

I can't work that out either, carbs with an injector hat????? I think just the injection looks toughest though.
Thanks for the pressure,.... but i am steering towards a pretty stock...ish paint job, but now not sure, i have looked at every Vette on google,
but still can't make up my mind which way to go.. scratch

OK, here is a large  update, i am having trouble transfering pics from the camera to the computer, so i saved up the last weeks work,..... with paint Allan..  Smile

Enlarged the bonnet scoop to hide most of the engine.

Drilled out the rear emblem and made a race style dry break fuel filler.

As i didn't want to run bumpers, i filled out the rear molding that sits behind the rear bumper.

Then i glued 4 pieces of styrene together so i could make 4 front and rear spoiler mounts identical.

And PAINT!!  (It might stay this way.).......??

Here is the final mock-up before i pull it all apart for BMF, Polish and final assembly.
I also made the front and rear spoiler from some styrene.
