new diorama

Post by Morrie on Tue 27 Oct 2015, 9:59 pm

Wanted to build a new diorama for a while for photo's etc. so I bit the bullet and started one today, got all this done this arvo, its raining and I'm injured at the moment so nothing else to do lol.. Things go a lot fast after you have built one before.

All the frame is balsa so super easy to work with, the base is just MDF board.

I cut most of the stuff ready to just smash it together.

I drew the roof trusses on paper first the just laid down the pre cut wood onto the template to glue to make sure they all end up the same.

I have the walls up and pinned together so I could glue the roof together.

I'm going to leave most of the side wall and a small section of roof out so I can use it for a prop for new car builds so I was jus seeing how much I had to cut off the wall, prob going to only leave 1/4 of it, so some more has to be chopped off. I stole this idea of Antwon's "My shed down the back" diorama, thanks mate.. lol..

so this is as far as I got today, prob do more tomorrow, the next step will be the floor, going to make it look like a standard concrete floor and will also do the driveway at the same time. ill add photo's as I go.

Cheers for checking it out.

Noice maaaate!
Twon's shed dio is the reason I haven't done a dio for autos yet, I'd can never do something that good!
So the next best thing is I take all my rides to his place and do a photo shoot there in his 'shed'.... hmmm.
I'm watching this one Morrie, very interested to see how this turns out bigthumbsup

Post by Morrie on Wed 28 Oct 2015, 8:58 pm

Thanks guys, Allan I wasn't sure weather or not to put it in the diorama section, but thought I was kinda of more in a workshop stage and I could put finished stuff in Diorama, if admin wants to move it all good.

Cuda just get into one, bit daunting at first but the fun takes over.

Today I made the slabs of "concrete" and driveway, I just used thick cardboard glued down to the base board.

Where ever I wanted a join or crack I just cut the cardboard as all this shows up once its finished.

This is it painted and texture for the driveway and path, I just used grey primer and flat white in cheap enamel spray cans from Supercheap, just sprayed random it really does look like concrete, and later I will just add weathering stains etc. and sand the texture to make it look more realistic.

I made the fence frame aswell and glued the shed frame together and put a base coat on it. will have to make it a darker brown as it looks too new, ill probably leave to roof unattached so I can always add to it and place cars in for photo's etc.

Also cut the wall opening bigger to get better angles for photo's, not sure it I will put windows in yet to let more light in but that will have to be next before the corrugated iron goes on.

sorry about the picture being a bit dodgy I did them with my phone today.

cheers..

That is a great start mate, and yeah, they do tend to take over and become fun , and you just end up wanting to do
more and more detail, until one day you look , and it's full..

Thanks guy, its really got me motivated to sit back at the work bench doing this.

Deaf I added a ute.. Smile  but its not finished.

Ray I made the Corrugated Iron, I posted in the How to section how I did it, it does look awesome on the wall.

I got a fare bit more done today, got most of the base detail on and weathered the concrete, just have to add dirt to section I base coated brown.

I did the finish colour on the shed frame and painted the fence frame, also weathered the corrugated iron a little and glued it in place, still have to make more for the last wall and the roof, not sure if I'm going to use iron on the fence or wood yet.

Corrugated iron looks pretty sweet in place.

Post by Morrie on Sun 01 Nov 2015, 11:30 pm

Thanks guys, yes my crimper has definitely payed for itself now.

I'm still injured (bruised or cracked ribs, stupid dirt bike lol) so pretty much all I can do is build models or watch TV so I have really gotten into getting more done on this today.

I have put down the dirt in the wheel trenches in the lawn and made the Corrugated iron for the fence and painted it, looks pretty good, will prob weather it a bit and maybe add some rust to make it look a bit crappier.

I finished the rest of the walls and sheeted the roof, the hole in the roof and wall are for taking internal pictures when I have cars in there, will be hooking up lighting in there too. next I will get my airbrush into some weathering on the outside of the shed as it still look too new.

I took a few shots through the hole to see if I left enough space to get some good angles, looks good. Stole the peep hole idea off another members dio.

Re: new diorama

Post by Morrie on Tue 03 Nov 2015, 9:31 pm

Thanks guys, had a few days off real work so I done some work to my diorama.

first up I finished the structural work on the shed with the front timber work done and airbrushed, weather the wood work and did a little to the fence, everything is glued to the base.

I also made the doors to the shed and thought some red doors would be cool, I would have red doors on my workshop if I owned my own place.

I scratch made some hinges and handles etc, got a bit carried away with these, guess the rest of the dio will have to have the same detail now  Rolling Eyes

Really happy with how the front came out with the detail and working doors, will give me more options for photo set ups. still have to add extra stuff to the yard etc but will have to start hunting around for stuff, unfortunately it a long way to the nearest hobby shop so gunna have to brain storm a bit.

I stole some stuff from my last Diorama as it was pretty full and looked a bit crowded in the shed which is good for this one as I have a good start already, also have a little stash of bits and pieces from kits etc. I just put them in to see how much room I have and to work out a good layout, got some cool ideas but will have to build shelves etc and then see what I have room for.

Cheers and thanks for following so far.
