Kenworth Challenge Transit mixer

Post by Bretto on Mon 12 Sep 2016, 8:41 pm

Gday all finally got how to do this. A lot of guys I know would be having a heart attack by now for building this very rare kit , but I say its just a model kit and is ment to be built

your basic AMT Kenworth chassis

the mixer chassis

kits never fit perfectly so a little plastic panel beating was required

Built or not, someone will be willing to give up their retirement fund for that kit...
Having said that, congrats on starting the build, looks awesome so far. Was this an ebay purchase or have you had the thing for ages? The decals look to be in pretty good condition too. It ought to look epic once it's on the shelf!

I have 7 of them, some are from ebay, some from swap meets 2 are very minty, a couple of them have been started chassis' only when I got them one has a bad twist built into it. The strangest one is a factory f@#k up, one of the truck chassis rails where it dips down at the front has been sliced off when the bag it was in was heat sealed but Im only interested in the mixer not the truck so its all good

decals applied but thinking of ditching the bonnet and replacing with "Alaskan Hauler" bonnet and guards

This is looking great , real nice decal work on the mixer . I have just been given an old still sealed Transtar mixer kit for nothing .

Hi Bretto, yeah it is a classic old kit. I have one unbuilt, pretty sure my mixer will go on another chassis, just haven't worked out what make and model yet. I think it would look good on an IH F1800 or a Loadstar.

Dude 7 kits!!!! I tip my hat to you. It's the Spanish inquisition here as to why I have more than 1 of anything. Have been smart enough not to let on about how little of the the donor kit gets used at times. Hey, the old Silverfox getting an unopened kit for nothing- awesome work. Last thing I got for free was the flu! Love what you are doing with this kit Bretto, great colours. It was made to be built and enjoyed! Rare kits are like fake boobs- why have them if you don't display them??

Great build Bretto, I like it with either bonnet. For what my opinion is worth, the tyres would look better with a light sand to take the shine off and get a permanent marker pen in red and go around the edge of the mudflaps. It sharpens the edge up and helps hide any wobbles in the edge of the mudflap. Can't wait to see more of your builds. A+
