64 dodge 330 gasser update 09/20/16

Post by vcv8273 on Wed 14 Sep 2016, 5:25 pm

Hi started this one years ago with the intention of building it into a street car but over the years had borrowed parts from it so decided on a change of plan and turn it into a street style gasser. Found a 392 hemi from the big john willys kit in the parts box and will detail it with the usual plug wires and fuel lines. Found the front springs and straight axle in the parts box and had to modify the axle by lengthening it. Mini tubbed the rear end and narrowed the kits diff along with bringing the rear springs inboard. Interior wise will leave out rear seat and am using 66 charger buckets in the front along with the kits roll cage. Painted this about 5 years ago and with a good polish think it came out nice. Still need to finish the bmf add the dodge decals then another couple of clear coats. Found the rims from the parts box, fronts came from one of the polar light funny car kits and the rears think came from the plum crazy 57 chev funny car. Still basically in mock up at the moment but hope to have more done by this weekend. Cheers and thanks for looking Steve

Thanks everyone for your comments. Have done a little bit over the past couple of days working out exhaust and interior. The headers I found in the parts box and found some end pieces from a gasser header in there as well to make up my own headers. Cut back the headers just after the beginning of the collector and molded the two together then heated them and bent them to give me the shape and look I was after.I also found a blower belt set up that fits and made up the motor mounts. Interior wise have built the roll cage and painted it metallic silver but still have to do the padding on it. Cheers and thanks for looking Steve

NICE interior work! Looks real good.... The gauges looks exceptionally well, drilled out and backed with a plastic sheet with decals applied?

Thanks John thats the plan for them. First I made my own facia panel the same size as the original then glued the size rod I wanted for the guages with super glue and once dried drilled them all the way through. Then opened them up to correct size for the decals that I am using with the knife. Have a super flat piece of plastic I will stick them to and if that fails will use a smear of neutral cure silastic to mount them. Cheers Steve

NICELY done!!!! I have to try this on my models, BUT when the time comes for a "special" muscle car, NOT a family replica, I plan to go as far as to turn my dash gauge rings on the lathe polished Aluminum! THEN to add the gauges with the decals to flat sheet behind and then fit in place to the back or bottom of that aluminum ring....
