71 pontiac trans am update 10/27/16

Post by vcv8273 on Fri 14 Oct 2016, 1:19 am

Hi have been playing with this one over the past couple of nights. Came in a lot I got from ebay minus chassis but in the same lot got a pro stock pontiac firebird build up and decided to merge the two. Bonus was they were never painted when they were built so much easier to work with. So far got the chassis to fit the body by removing the inner guards of the body and removing some plastic from the rear floor pan but otherwise fits real well. Scratch built a cowl induction for the hood to clear the motor and primed the bonnet. Cheers and thanks for looking Steve

Hi got a bit of work done on this one over the weekend. Glued the front apron on, filled the gaps with super glue and sanded down to a nice smooth finish. Finished off removing the inner guards, filled in some sink marks and repaird the right hand A pillar as it was broken. Gave it a good clean then a quick coat of duplicolor primer so I could see any more imperfections. Had time to also get a coat of colour on the bonnet which is duplicolor alpine blue rattle can. Had to repair the complete front end due to been broken completely off and one one of the lower control arms was broken. Working on the roll cage at the moment which is a real glue nightmare. Cheers and thanks for looking Steve

That looks TUFF Steve...you don't see too many Pontiacs on here, so you've got my attention for sure.
The stance looks right and the wing suits it too I reckon.

Thanks Antwon for your comments. Been working on this over the past couple of nights and have nearly completed the roll cage, have installed ignition box, with scratch built plugs for the wiring and wiring. Also cut up the interior tub and removed the door trims and modified them to fit between the firewall and the tubs looks a lot better with some form of door trim than nothing at all. Just waiting for the paint to dry before I take pics of them in position. Cheers and thanks for looking

Thanks 70cudatj for your comment. Spent approx 6 hrs last night polishing the right hand side of this build and so far paint is looking real nice. Hope to have the rest polished up tonight so I can clear coat in the next couple of days then on to the chassis. Cheers and thanks for looking Steve

71 pontiac trans am update 10/31/16

Post by vcv8273 on Mon 31 Oct 2016, 1:32 pm

Thanks everyone for your comments. Got a little more done over the past couple of nights. Have the dash completed, bmf the dash fascia and used a few gauge decals from the parts box. Had to make up a new steering column for it as it was missing. Made a collar for the column and made up a couple of braces for it to attach it to the roll cage, also made a mount for the tacho and wired it in. Drilled out the holes in the steering wheel, painted it in metallic aluminum and painted the rim in flat black but tried to leave it ruff to simulate use. Still have to make up a parachute release for it and then hopefully on to the chassis. Cheers and thanks for looking, Steve
