This is the old ESCI Renault 5 in 1/24 scale. I will not build it as a rallye-car but as a street-car with some lowriders influences....

It's not a very good kit actually...ESCI left out some obvious details and I also wanted to "backdate" it to early R5 specs. Spent a few hours Gooling pics of early R5's and now I think I have the necessary pics and info to achieve my goal.

Starting point, approx 1978-79 Renault 5:

1st, get a "stock look" interior using 2 rear seats from AMT 1955 Chevy Nomad and a pair of unknown front bucket seats.

2nd, redo the front bumper, omitting the integrated spolier and filling the recessed areas for extra lights:

3rd, lowering the front and rear suspension:

There are no rear shocks in the kit so I did my own:

Also, the exhaust system was missing some of it's pipes. I made my own "twin-system" and added a muffler for street-use:

The gas-cap in the kit was a large black "thingy" supposed to be sitting on the outside of the body (according to the boxart) or in it's regular place according to the blueprints. Neither looked good ! I made a scratchbuilt cap looking more of a stock!

The dashboard was not looking the way I wanted it, so I did some detailing to get the "early look" and also get the correkt levers for the steering column, get the old-fashioned shifter coming from the dash instead of the floor-mounted one in the kit.

Stay tuned......

Dashboard got it's first coat of black paint today (still wet)

I've kinda developed my own "trademark" over the yeras and most of my builds get a sunroof. In this case - a closed one. Pretty simple to create:

Seats will be sand-coloured cloth. The rear window louvres got some black wrinkle-finish paint and the "sliding top" as well. The sliding roof will later on be gold coloured vinyl wjhile the louvers will get a semigloss black finish.

Awesome work, I've often looked at racing or rally car kits and thought how would it look with street paint and just be a tough street legal car. Your approach is really adventurous, and lots of bling.
Well done

ESCI omitted some rather important detail when they produced this kit, so some more scratchbuilding went into the engine. Distributor and coil:

Done with the speakers. They measure about 8 mm in height (that's about 1/3 inch) and about 5 mm i diameter (that's about 1/5 inch) and each speaker contains totally 6 small pieces of styrene.
